The Project
The project was directed by the majestic blending of nobility and resourcefulness of the eternal great architecture, and the present, with its innovation and freshness, for the convenience and comfort of residents and visitors.
The building was designed in a Y-shape, overlooking Praia Formosa, enabling most apartments to benefit from a panoramic sea view, with an amplitude of 180º.
To the south, completely protected by the Y-shaped building, the landscaped areas and the lawn will remain.
All tall trees planted 50 years ago will be preserved.
This will be a one-of-a-kind project for Madeira real estate, for its location, superior quality of the apartments, allowing owners to explore more than 7,000 square meters (m) of gardens and green areas.

BUILDING HISTORY
Designed by the renowned architect Carlos Ramos, a Valmor award winner and co-author of the Restelo Stadium, in Lisbon, the hotel opened in the early 70s, under the Hilton brand. Later, it adopted the name of Hotel Madeira Palácio.
A Y-shaped building was cleverly designed and built to enjoy the best scenery in Funchal. The refined structural design is complemented by an exceptional and unique landscape that amplifies to the sea.
The outdoor areas and namely the gardens were designed by the famous Portuguese landscape architect of the 20th century, Gonçalo Ribeiro Teles. On the other hand, the interior design breathed the spirit of the architect Daciano da Costa, consensually considered the most outstanding Portuguese designer of the 20th century.
Madeira Palácio Hotel underwent various changes after a 40-year history of success and glamor that maintained the structure of the Y-shaped building, though some small units were added.

Detailed project description
The objective and challenge of this project was to start from the existing building which resulted from previous interventions and rehabilitate it into a modern and classy residential building.
For better organizing the building, identification was marked by blocks. From the original hotel, there are Blocks A, B and C.
Block A1 was then added to these (where the adjacent building used to be) and Block A2, which extends from Block A, both built at the lower levels. Associated with Block B is Block B1.
Considering the reference to the blocks, the floors by block are the following:
- Block A - from 4th Floor to 10th Floor
- Block A1 – from 2nd Floor to 4th Floor
- Block A2 – from Floor 0 to 2nd Floor (covering at the level of the 3rd Floor)
- Block B – from 2nd Floor to 11th Floor (recessed floor)
- Block B1 – from Floor 0 to 2nd Floor (covering at the level of 3rd Floor)
- Block C – from 3rd Floor to Floor 10th
Private plunge pools were added in the units with the larger terraces. There are about 25 swimming pools among different blocks and floors.
There are 27 apartments with a private garden area.Every apartment has at least one private parking space, with the larger apartments having up to three parking spaces.
Likewise, all the apartments have a private storage room outside the apartments.
